The June 18 concert was a success on all accounts. The performers stepped up to the plate and played both my music and Christopher Gainey's. There was a good turnout as well. Comments from the audience were universally positive. I believe it was the best overall concert I have ever been involved with as composer and producer, thanks in large measure to the quality of the performers and the quality of Chris' music to compliment and balance mine. The entire concert is being posted on youtube (my music is already there).
I am very interested in the idea of starting a group that patronizes new music, goes to concerts together and actually writes about their experiences. If there is anyone out there who is interested in this, please let me know. Let's make more new music in Seattle! Contemporary musicians and composers have created a tight inner circle (or many tight inner circles) that are not necessarily connected to each other. We get too busy doing our own thing to be mutually supportive. I am guilty of this myself. At my concert on June 18 I saw one composer I knew (Tom Baker, who is very good at concert-going - thanks Tom!). I know it's hard to get out, but we all need to do better. Especially me!

upcoming concert June 18th, 2011
This upcoming concert will be something I am sure many of you will enjoy. It is on Saturday, the 18th of June at 8:00 in the Chapel Performance Space of The Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave N. in Seattle, WA). It's going to be full of interesting, beautiful, fun and innovative pieces for assorted chamber groups.
The concert is a collaborative effort between myself and Christopher Gainey from the University of Iowa. Chris is a really great composer and wonderful all-around guy. We met because a group that I used to be part of (Affinity) performed some music of his. He is moving out to this neck of the woods (U. of B.C. in Vancouver, BC) and we plan of having more joint ventures in the future. Please take a look at http://waywardmusic.blogspot.com/ and http://www.christophergainey.com for further info as well as the videos at the top of this page of a couple of my recent pieces.
I hope to see you at the concert.
